Notice: Request to public in light of uncertainty regarding labour dispute affecting Canada Post

May 29, 2025

The Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) of Alberta continues to monitor the ongoing labour dispute at Canada Post.

At the time of the strike notice issued last week, the OIPC ceased sending any items via Canada Post due to the risk of delays. In light of the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the negotiations between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, the OIPC is continuing to find other ways to send and receive items.

If you are expecting items from the OIPC, please watch for them via secure encrypted email or file transfer, or courier. There will be no interruption in Government of Alberta (GoA) internal courier mail, so if you are within the GoA, items from the OIPC could also arrive that way.

If you need to provide the OIPC with information or documentation, we suggest you consider using alternate means such as couriers, secure email, fax or in-person delivery until business resumes as usual at Canada Post.

Thank you.
