Information and Privacy Commissioner Jill Clayton has issued the following statement in relation to Bill 46, Health Statutes Amendment Act, 2020 (No. 2):
“I was notified earlier this afternoon that significant amendments to the Health Information Act were forthcoming. It is extremely disappointing that I was not at any point consulted on this bill. It goes without saying, as the person responsible for the oversight of Albertans’ privacy rights, that I would have expected the opportunity to review and comment on these changes prior to the bill being introduced in the legislature. Nevertheless, now that the bill will be debated in the legislature, I look forward to reviewing these amendments in detail and will soon be making my comments on this bill public.”
