Former U of A employees asked the Commissioner to investigate events resulting in the supplying of their personal information to an outsource company looking to provide contracted application management services for the University’s computer systems.
The investigation report finds that a set of disclosures of comprehensive employment–related personal information on four dozen employees was made to the prospective outsource operator in April 2000. These disclosures were made purposely, without consent and in violation of Part 2 of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
The report contains five recommendations aimed at preventing similar breaches of privacy in the future.
